The Blanket

Ingram Replies

As you know and admit I did submit to your site the Cryptome piece regarding McGuinness which you declined to carry at Christmas time because in Anthony’s own words it was too close to calling Martin McGuinness a tout. I accepted that at the time and then posted to Cryptome who carried it, no problem as did Indymedia and it was debated on Slugger. Others were informed of your decision at that time, so thankfully some Belfast Republicans will know that I am telling the truth on this point. The point you make today about evidence was never raised, you know that and I know it. At this moment in time there is NO evidence in respect to the alleged British security service collusion in the murderous Dublin Monaghan bombs yet you carry these stories, ask Judge Barron. There was no direct evidence save my word against Freddy Scappaticci yet you carried it, strange world eh. A silly argument, I can understand the point made by Anthony about having to live in the community but let us not tell wee porky pies about why. I had no intention of submitting a piece to this paper on this subject due to your sensitivities and only did so in response to a Blanket article 30 May 06 which raised certain points. I am genuinely sorry if I embarrassed you.

In respect to Mick Hall. I have received one email from him, which I could post if required. That e-mail asked for an interview, no dates were mentioned. I responded by agreeing and giving dates when I would be in London. To date I have received no follow up to that request. Nothing sinister in that although today I must caution that it is possible that legal proceedings are possible in these matters so any interview will be on the basis of that advice.

The Blanket has made efforts to contact ‘Ingram’ to ask him these very questions and others that we have worries about. Unfortunately he has refused to take up our current offer by firming up a date to be interviewed (although he has been willing to be interviewed by papers that take an anti-republican stance), implying he is willing to meet me “some time” in the future, which, considering the topical nature of the current brouhaha he has created, is unsatisfactory in the extreme. Thus I have concluded it is simply not acceptable for him to make accusations of this nature without being prepared to answer certain questions, both about his sources and his own life. [Mick Hall, quote]

Mick requested a meeting with me to discuss this issue and this issue only. The subject of my private and family life, income, and whether I am on benefits and my family connections are all well known to leading journalists and the British Irish rights Director Ms Jane Winters. That is clearly a silly line to take by Mick and was bound to be met with a wry smile or was designed to provoke a response.

In respect to not debating with Republican media. I have regular correspondence with Mick Hall of Daily Ireland. We are not best buddies but he asks for comment when appropriate and to date I have not shirked that debate, you will note he has included comments attributed to me recently on these matters. I have been asked on three occasions to debate Republican issues on Radio Free Eireann, a well known Republican site. The last weekend I debated these issues with Eamon McCann a well known Derry journalist. I have taken part on each occasion I have been asked. I am a regular on a number of blog boards etc, as Mick Hall knows only too well. I am certainly more available to debate these and other issues than Martin McGuinness, Sinn Fein Chief Negotiator AND of course British Member of Parliament (MP).
